John founded a venture capital firm in 2017 after retiring from Welch Hornsby, an investment advisory firm ($1.6 Billion AUM) which he had cofounded in 1988. He had previously served as an account executive with Morgan Keegan & Company. Prior to entering the world of finance, John was a consulting engineer for over 5 years and is a Registered Professional Engineer (inactive). John is a native of Atlanta and attended Auburn University for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering.

John is a member of the Board of Directors of the Alabama Trust Fund and a member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Birmingham. Previously, he had served on several boards including The Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the Business Council of Alabama; the Alabama Policy Institute; and Marannook, a faith-based center for college students as well as a summer camp for children.

John and his wife, Virginia, have two children, and are active members of the Cathedral Church of the Advent in downtown Birmingham.

Bob is an experienced startup founder and leader, with significant industry experience in investment banking, early stage ventures, financial management, new business development, engineering, operations, and manufacturing. His industry experience spans biotech, medical products R&D and manufacturing, software, transportation, and insurance sectors. Bob has been exploring with John Hornsby since 2019 ways in which wealth managers can enhance the value they deliver to their High Net Worth clients.

Bob grew up in Colorado, earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado, an MBA from the University of Denver, and a master’s degree in Finance from the University of Alabama. Bob has been a CFA charterholder since 2000.

Bob and his wife Mary live in Birmingham, AL and have 6 children.
